A Sustainable and Responsible Way to Travel at Resolute Experiences

There has never been such a great importance on travelling in a sustainable and responsible way. When it is safe to travel in the upcoming months, know that by booking a Luxury Resolute Tour and engaging properly with it, you will be contributing towards the support of livelihoods, the possible development of infrastructure and deepening cultural and historical connections. Things that after seeing first-hand the effect that Covid-19 has had on businesses globally, will make a massive difference.

Sustainable Stay

One of our partnered hotels Rosewood Hotel London is committed to minimising it’s impact on the planet. Through using their biodegradable amenities, your stay contributes to a global waste reduction of 275 million metric tonnes per year - substantially decreasing the waste that ends up in landfills.

By staying at a Rosewood hotel you reduce your own impact on landfills as they have a goal to divert 70% of waste from landfill under there zero waste program. To do this, they are striving to implement waste-management infrastructure as well as developing organic waste solutions such as on-site composting and food donation programs. They aim to reach, and potentially surpass this goal by 2025.

Additionally, by 2025 they aim to eliminate 100% of guest-facing single-use plastics, reach 50% carbon neutrality and receive additional green building certifications. We are very proud to be partnered with this hotel as this is just a small outline of the offerings they have, in creating a sustainable future as a hotel.

Resolute Transport

One of the benefits of choosing to tour in a group when travelling is that you are mitigating the negative impact of transport as you are travelling in one vehicle for the duration of the tour instead of using multiple methods of transport if you had chosen to book the exercising yourself. At Resolute, some journeys between sites will be by foot whenever possible.

The company we use for transport for the majority of your stay with us is Nova Bussing. They have been at the forefront of Eco-friendly low emission minibuses for many years as they operate the most fuel-efficient vehicles. The goal For them would be to eventually operate a fleet of zero-emission minibuses, with the most likely form being fully electric minibuses.

Furthermore, being what is known as a ‘slow traveller’ can also help to reduce the negative impact of air travel as you are flying less often and staying longer in a chosen destination, this has many benefits and helps you to travel more sustainably overall. See our Resolute Extras page to see how you can extend your stay with us, we can create personalised packages to suit exactly what you wish to do.

Responsible Dining

When looking at eating responsibly, it is important to explore places that incorporate locally grown food from local producers into their menus, whilst avoiding imported foods and international food chains where food has to be transported from far away causing carbon emissions.

Our partnered hotel Grantley Hall is a very good example of this is as it has it’s very own Kitchen Garden which ensures they can provide guests with the finest Yorkshire produce and at the same time produce ingredients that are sustainably sourced. The Kitchen Garden is carefully tended to all year round by their dedicated team of expert gardeners who all share the same passion for sustainability.

For external food supplies, Grantley Hall sources its produce from the local North Yorkshire area where possible, minimising the carbon footprint of our food sourcing. They work carefully with selected local suppliers to ensure that all meat, fish and poultry is ethically and environmentally reared – with a target to source within 50 miles of the property with the majority of suppliers located within a 12 mile radius.

Sustainable Shopping

You can sustainably shop on our Resolute Tours by buying locally made gifts to take home as souvenirs and thus manage to avoid imported souvenirs that will have been flown or shipped in and therefore have a larger carbon footprint. It’s better to take home souvenirs unique to the country where you’re travelling, rather than something from a factory elsewhere.

There will be many opportunities to do so at our range of historical sites we will visit throughout the tours. An example of this can be seen at Washington Old Hall, as there are vintage wares to be found in the ‘Friends of Washington Old Hall’ second hand collectibles shop, with every penny spent going into the conservation of Washington Old Hall.

Another example can be seen in the gift shop at Lincoln Castle. It is stocked with a high quality range of gifts and souvenirs for young and old, including items that are exclusive to Lincoln Castle. Selling Lincoln Castle and Magna Carta souvenirs, local food and drink produce from select Lincolnshire producers, armour and artefacts, books and bears, toys and games, exquisite scarves, jewellery and bags, the shop is packed with unusual and attractive products.

Responsible Partners

Within our American Legacy package travellers will get to visit the US Embassy, centrally located in the Nine Elms district, to explore the diplomatic links to the UK. Sustainability is a hallmark of the Embassy. The Embassy’s site incorporates a range of sustainable technologies. With environmental initiatives including brownfield redevelopment, natural habitat creation, healthy and responsibly sourced building materials, and energy efficient equipment, the project received LEED Gold and BREAM Outstanding ratings.

The building’s energy efficient design conserves as much energy as possible through strategies such as daylight-responsive lighting and shade controls, passive and active chilled beams, efficient mechanical systems, and Combined Heat and Power generation. The building harnesses renewable resources including solar energy gathered by photovoltaic cells and geothermal energy generated through ground source heat pumps, which use the consistent temperature of the earth to heat and cool the building.

The Embassy pond is at the center of an integrated water system that aims to retain all rainwater that falls on the site and prevent pollution from flowing into local waterways. Additionally, the pond naturally irrigates the surrounding landscape. Captured and treated rainwater is used in toilets, mechanical systems, and interior garden irrigation.
